Optimizing Supercritical Fluid Extraction Systems
نویسنده
چکیده
Supercritical fluid extraction systems can be configured in a number of different ways and the operating conditions can span the full continuum of temperatures and pressures. Every combination presents differing solubilities and mass transfer behaviour and results in different cost. Optimal conditions for processing are rarely coincident with optimal conditions for maximum solubility. For a typical supercritical fluid extraction (SFE) system, the behaviour of utility cost as a function of operating conditions and solute solubility is explored. Fifteen solutes representing a wide range of interests were highlighted for study. The solutes represent a range of compounds including polar and non-polar, of varying levels of solubility and of biological or environmental interest. The optimal operating conditions for the extractor and separation vessel seem to fall in a narrow band.

Supercritical fluid extraction and chromatography for fat-soluble vitamin analysis.
Extraction and chromatographic separation of fat-soluble vitamins is a challenging task, due to the sensitivity of these compounds towards light, oxygen, heat and pH. In light of this, supercritical fluid extraction (SFE) and supercritical fluid chromatography (SFC) are attractive techniques as they function at considerably milder conditions than conventional solvent-based analytical techniques...
متن کاملTheoretical Optimization of Analyte Collection in Analytical Supercritical Fluid Extraction
Optimizing the extracted analyte collection step in analytical supercritical fluid extraction (SFE) is of key importance in achieving high analyte recoveries and extraction efficiencies. Whereas the extraction step in SFE has been well characterized both theoretically and experimentally; the analyte collection step after SFE has few theoretical guidelines, aside from a few empirical studies whi...
متن کاملSupercritical Fluid Extraction of Lovastatin from the Wheat Bran Obtained after Solid-State Fermentation
The objective of the present work is to extract lovastatin with minimum impurity by using supercritical carbon dioxide (SC-CO2). A strain of Aspergillus terreus UV 1617 was used to produce lovastatin by solid-state fermentation (SSF) on wheat bran as a solid substrate. Extraction of lovastatin and its hydroxy acid form was initially carried out using organic solvents. Among the different screen...
